New Announcement!!
OGWASHI-UKU IN THE
MATRIX OF NIGERIAN GEOPOLITICS
By Dr. Chris Agboli
The entire geographical area
known today as Ogwashi-Uku was a vast unknown
virgin table land until 1300 A.D when a group of

today’s Benin City due to the harsh treatments
they were subjected to by the then Oba of Bini

WAKE UP, SLEEPING LION!! -A COMMUNIQUE
The historic meeting of the 1st Ogwashi-Uku Forum,
held at the Ogwashi-Uku Community Center on the
23rd of December, 2006, which was attended by
over 200 Ogwashi-Uku sons and daughters and their
well wishers, was convened by the Ogwashi-Uku
Association, USA Inc. The forum opened with the
National President’s address, the chairman’s
opening address, and the papers delivered by Professor
M. Mogekwu and Dr. Ike Enwemnwa, all of which
highlighted the decay in infrastructures, the
deplorable state of roads and schools, the non-existence
of social amenities, the perennial water problem,
the erratic power supply, as well as the general
slow pace of development in the town: all of these
have made Ogwashi-Uku “a Sleeping Lion”.
At this Forum, we should be prepared to tell
ourselves some home truths, no matter how painful
they may be, so that we can appreciate what we
have done or failed to do, individually or collectively
as a people that have left us in the mess in which
we find ourselves today. We cannot continue to
pretend that all is well, because all is not well.
We have reached a point where something has to
be done. The deplorable state of our town should
be an embarrassment to all of us. Read
